Santa Fe Dreamers Project: 2017 Courageous Innovation Piñon Award Winner

The Courageous Innovation Award honors an organization that uses a bold approach to solving a persistent problem in the  community.

Santa Fe Dreamers Project is an outreach program that provides free legal representation to immigrant youth and their family members, with a focus on economic and community development. Staff are committed to representing every qualified immigrant who walks through their doors and they make every effort to understand the barriers that normally prevent immigrant families from accessing legal representation. All legal services are provided completely free of charge.

Their services include a weekly walk-in clinic in Santa Fe and Albuquerque, and a mobile clinic for Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) cases. The mobile clinic brings critical legal representation to families in parts of the state where there is no immigration legal aid. They also represent clients who are seeking a U-Visa which is a program for survivors of violence, have a deportation defense program, provide weekly attorney office hours at Santa Fe area public schools, mentor high school students interested in careers in law, provide training to nonprofit groups about immigration law, and actively participate in partnerships with other groups dedicated to serving New Mexico's immigrant community.
