with Robert Sturm
Tuesday, March 30, 2021  11:00 AM - 12:30 PM
The strength and beauty of New Mexico lies with it's people. Look around and you will see a population that is diverse in every way.  Nationally, the makeup of nonprofit boards and executive staff are mostly white males. How does that compare to the nonprofit landscape in New Mexico?  How to move past the realization and into action to shift an organization to be reflective of those they serve in a meaningful and intentional manner.  Robert Sturm has more than 25 years of experience working with nonprofit and philanthropic organizations. The focus of his career has been on increasing access and equity for all groups and questioning assumptions and structures that support structural racism, misogyny, homophobia, racism and other barriers to inclusion and equity.

Strong sustainability for your organization requires a plan for ensuring that you have new board members who are ready to support you in carrying out your mission. Along with overseeing the organization, the board must look to the future to attract strong members. A good plan will have thoughtful criteria for recruitment, a thorough on-boarding process, on going training and will be intentional and skilled about increasing diversity.
