Rethinking Philanthropy: Funding Real Systems Change
Details
About the event
How can philanthropic institutions have a greater impact with the wealth they hold? Through meaningful conversations about systems change with a focus on philanthropy, this community of practice will take participants on a journey of examining philanthropic practices in the US while learning to restructure those practices, cultures, organizations, and systems to be more equitable and just using the lens of systems change.
Additional Information

This community of practice will meet every month for five months (2:30 – 4:30 pm MT, August 10, September 14, October 12, November 9, December 7) and provide the actionable tools and skills needed to rethink your giving practices to be more efficient, aligned with your vision and mission, and have the largest impact short and long term in your communities. Here is a high-level overview of what will be explored through this community of practice:
•An introduction to systems thinking, systems mapping, and how to use unlearning and learning to change systems around you
•Applying root cause analysis and digging deeper to identify points of greater influence to invest
•Reimagining what is possible for a more just and equitable nonprofit sector and the role of philanthropy in building something different
•Exploring the roles individuals to a philanthropic foundations have in transforming organizations, grantmaking, operationalizing anti-oppression, changing cultures, and embedding new ways of being
•Complexity and nuance in systems change
*Accountability, living our values, and exploring what new ways of being can look and feel like
The Prospera Partners facilitation team creates space and support for brave – and yes, often uncomfortable– yet productive supportive conversations. Each session includes individual reflection time, space for small group dialogues where community agreements are practiced and reflected upon, embodiment and mindfulness practices, and large group conversations around learnings, including uncomfortable truths and how to move through tension to a place of deepened trust and relationship building with ourselves and each other. Our facilitation team is also highly experienced in facilitating virtual spaces that support meaningful dialogue and authentic relationship building.
