Taking Some Of the Pain Out of Pay & Hiring Decisions
Details
About the event
Two of the most common areas of uncertainty facing nonprofit organizations are compensation and hiring. They are interconnected and may come up together or separately, as it is important to look at total compensation for existing employees as well as new hires. How do you make each dollar go as far as possible while still making sure you’re paying fairly and equitably? How do you hire to build a diverse staff, stay in compliance with all laws, and make sure you’re hiring the best person for the job?
Additional Information
Thursday, July 13, 2023 | 9:00 - 11:00 am
We’ll walk through a clear process for hiring and compensation to develop a solid team. Attendees will learn how to build a strong foundation with the job description and an analysis of total compensation. From there, we’ll talk through hiring - how to find candidates, figure out who is the best person for the job, and make a job offer.
We’ll touch on compliance considerations, including a brief overview of wage and hour requirements, employee classification, and relevant state and federal laws. Strategies for mitigating bias at each step of the way will also be covered in depth.
This event is part of our Learning Hub's Learning Lab Series.

Racial Healing and Renewal Cohort: Session 4
with Robert Nelson and Kendra Toth
This four-session program is based on building the capacity for trusting relationships by analyzing our individual identities within the context of the history of oppression. Healing is a revolutionary act. Honoring lessons from elders in the justice movement, it is imperative that we no longer perpetuate the grinding style of activism that replicates the same exploitative practices on our bodies, minds, and hearts. Healing involves stopping the production of social justice and to holistically understand personal proximity to power allows for real healing.
