Director of Development

Job Description

The SFCF Director of Development manages the day-to-day financial resource development and donor stewardship strategies of the Foundation. The position is part of the Foundation’s Community Philanthropy Team, which includes the Vice President for Community Philanthropy, the President & CEO, and the Communications and Marketing Associate. Duties include developing and managing philanthropic relationships with diverse partners, creating and executing development-focused events, and creatively supporting the growth in Foundation assets to support long-term grantmaking aspirations. This position is part of the Foundation's Management Team and work closely with colleagues on achieving the Foundation's mission.

Marketing and Communications Associate

Job Description

The Communications and Marketing Associate is responsible for overseeing all internal and external communications functions of the Foundation. Duties include managing all Foundation websites and social media outlets, as well as creating and executing print and electronic publications, drafting and sending press releases, working with local and state media (including radio) to communicate Foundation priorities and elevate visibility, digital marketing and communications, work with external design consultants in brand development, and ensure brand and messaging consistency across SFCF programs/initiatives. This position works in close collaboration with colleagues on achieving the Foundation's mission.

Major Responsibilities

  • Integrates the Foundation’s mission and vision into all external communications to articulate a consistent and inspiring brand.
  • Serves as the brand champion, ensuring that every part of the Foundation - from marketing to customer service to community engagement to grantee support to donor relations – is operating in sync with the Foundation’s mission and desired impact.
  • Leads development and execution, in concert with the Management Team and other staff, of an Annual Communications Plan that supports all aspects of the Foundation’s work including grantmaking, community leadership initiatives, SFCF programs, and resource development and stewardship.
  • Oversees creative development and management of all Foundation websites and social media activity, including content substance and tenor.
  • Ensures internal communications among staff and Board are streamlined and meeting the needs of achieving the Foundation’s mission and impact.
  • Leads or supports with appropriate staff, development and dissemination of press releases, radio interviews, radio show – Community Matters, blog posts, advertisements, opinion pieces, talking points, flyers, and brochures.
  • Supports staff and Board development in the areas of communicating Foundation priorities, including providing or identifying appropriate trainings to strengthen communication skills and marketing strategies.
  • Works with colleagues as part of the Development Team to develop messaging for multiple audiences of donors and toward executing an Annual Development Plan.d
  • Works as a co-creative team member within the Management Team, Development Team, and within the Community Foundation.


  • A Bachelor’s degree, or advanced degree in communications, branding, marketing, publishing, or another related field.
  • At least two years of experience in the field.

Skills Needed

  • An affinity for philanthropy, the role of nonprofits in strengthening communities, and a commitment to equity, diversity, and the power of social change.
  • Strong organizational skills, strategic thinking, and capacity to see both the larger Foundation picture and how it relates to the marketing and communications details of individual functions and initiatives of the Foundation is critical.
  • Excellent advanced writing and editing skills are required.
  • Experience with digital and print marketing and communications.

Salary: $40,000.00 to $55,000.00 /year
