Learning Lab: Can Advocacy Help Expand your Mission?
with Jennifer Billing

Tuesday, May 7, 2019 9:00 AM - 11:00 AM

This session is available for remote access; see registration and join us from the convenience of your own desk.

 Learning objectives:

    • Assess whether or not your non-profit may be able to enhance its mission by adding relevant policy advocacy to your work
    • Discover which areas of your operation will be most impacted by advocacy work
    • Discover a deliberate process for determining whether advocacy is right for your organization
    • Understand the elements for developing a plan to make the organizational transition into advocacy

Often, in trying to offer the best possible services to their clients, non-profit professionals find themselves bumping up against the same systemic barriers over and over again. Many of these barriers can be traced back to broken policies that have been adopted by elected officials at the local, state or federal levels. Policy advocacy is an important mechanism for overcoming those barriers and impacting not only your clients, but people in similar circumstances, who will never find their way to your services.

This session is geared for non-profit leaders who feel that policy advocacy could be an important part of fulfilling their mission and a way to more thoroughly meet their clients’ needs. It will benefit organizations who are just beginning the exploration process, as well as organizations who have included advocacy in their strategic plan and are early in the implementation stages.

The session will help you explore whether policy advocacy could be a way to extend your mission and help you understand how advocacy will impact the daily operations of your organization. It will also introduce a process for assessing whether or not advocacy is right for you and help you begin the process of planning to add advocacy to your operations.

Who should attend?
Staff members with nonprofits that provide direct services and want to expand their mission by moving into policy advocacy.
