This study has been amazingly transformative to me.
I have lived the last 40 years of my life in a multi-cultural family
and now feel like a nascent being on these topics.
-2018 course participant

This course helps white people, and others who benefit from white skin privilege, to more effectively see, understand and counter racism - within ourselves, our organizations and in the structures of our society. Based on compassionate and constructive engagement, we use home-study, videos, discussion, mindfulness practices and reflection, to explore the ways we unintentionally carry racist bias and participate in systemic racism, causing harm to people of color, to ourselves, and the world we live in.

Rather than using a “how to” approach, this course emphasizes gaining the tools and perspectives that enable us to more deeply understand racism and whiteness and how they function. Beginning with deepening our understanding of the historical and social roots of racism in the U.S., we look at racism’s role in our society and in ourselves. We explore the meaning and impact of whiteness and what we need to more effectively work to dismantle racism. Topics include: the history of race in the U.S., institutional and systemic racism, white privilege, implicit bias, white fragility, racial trauma and building our capacities to partner with people of color to counter racism.

This course is facilitated by an experienced Santa Fe team: Aja Riggs, Sarah Grant and Nicola Redfern.
