Using Photo Voice for Grant Writing with Mabel Gonzalez
Documentation and collecting visuals as data

Wednesday, December 16, 2020 9:00 AM - 11:00 AM

This Photo Voice mini-training is designed to build skills that will allow anyone regardless of their age, role within the community and organizations to take a proactive approach in collecting and learning how to voice concerns, contributions and cause. Photo Voice involves community members who are not usually included in decision making processes. The fun and proactive Photo Voice projects will bring to light the importance of documenting  and being owners of the data. It also provides a space for all community members to express their concerns and attributes within their day to day life, and issues that impact them personally. Nonprofits can use these skills to increase participation, awareness, and data collection for future grant writing and final reporting of their work.

Mabel Gonzalez has created a career from all her life passions; education, community organizing and photography.  After receiving a dual Masters degree in Language, Literary and Sociocultural Studies, and in Latin American Studies, Mabel worked as director of ENLACE (Engaging Latino Communities in Education) at San Juan College and institutionalized a Latino ethnic center. As a fellow for the W.K. Kellogg Foundation, Mabel was challenged to grow in other areas, and the pursue of new projects, and dreams. With a leap of faith and a strong network, her position at ENLACE was passed along to new leadership and Mavel Photography  & Workshop LLC was created. In the last five years, Mabel has trained in photography around the world, and has intertwined her previous skills and knowledge to provide trainings and consultation to numerous organizations in New Mexico. The trainings include research methods, marketing skills in social media, data collection methods, documentation and grant writing, and photography trainings.
