Correlating Diversity, Equity and Inclusion to Sustainability
with Steven Eric Lovato

Participants will virtually explore strategies to better understand diversity, equity, and inclusion by examining their own culture and or identity, risk factors, and gifts, and how we correlate diversity, equity, and inclusion to sustainability.

Learning Objectives

  • Exploring the differences between Equality, Equity, and Justice.
  • Exploring the role of Gender, Racial and Ethnic Justice.
  • Understanding the role that our assumptions, perceptions and expectations have in defining how we perceive others by learning the Perception Assumption Model.
  • Learning the Iceberg Model of Culture and the importance of understanding the surface and deeper aspects of one’s culture and or identity.
  • Exploring the differences between Diversity and Inclusion, and how each correlate to sustainability.

Steven Eric Lovato (He/Him/His) is a Certified Prevention Intern who specializes in facilitating workshops for youth, adults working with youth and adults. Steven was born in Los Alamos, New Mexico and was raised in Chamita, next to the Ohkay Owingeh, Pueblo. Steven identifies as a mestizo as he is from of both Spanish and indigenous roots. 

Steven serves as the Secretary on the Española Community Matanza Board, a non-profit corporation. The Matanza Board has utilized their annual, Española Community Matanza, as a culturally inclusive event to fundraise monies for scholarships via Northern New Mexico College.

  • From Playground to Prom: An Active Teen Parenting Workshop
  • Alcohol Literacy Challenge
  • Partnership for Success Mentorship Pilot Program
  • SWAG (Success with Adolescent Goals) “Making a Difference” curriculum
  • Botvin Life Skills Training
  • Hispanic/Latino Leadership Summit
