This month on Community Matters, Sandra Session-Robertson sits down with Angie K. Smith of Kitchen Angels to talk about the powerful connection between food, health, and community care. Angie shares how the organization delivers medically-tailored meals to neighbors across northern New Mexico, the vital role volunteers play, and an upcoming opportunity to support this work during Angels Dine Out.
Kitchen Angels, a Santa Fe–based nonprofit that provides medically tailored meals and supportive services to individuals facing illness, food insecurity, and isolation. Founded in 1992, Kitchen Angels prepares and delivers nutritious meals to people living with chronic or life-threatening illnesses, helping clients remain nourished, independent, and connected to their community.

Angie K. Smith is the Chief Executive Officer of Kitchen Angels. Under her leadership, the organization is strengthening its infrastructure, expanding programs, and building strategic partnerships to meet the growing needs of older adults and medically vulnerable residents across Northern New Mexico. Angie brings more than two decades of experience in nonprofit leadership, fundraising, and strategic development. Prior to returning to New Mexico, she spent many years in Tucson, Arizona, where she founded Smith & Dale, a consulting firm that partnered with nonprofits and foundations to strengthen fundraising strategies, develop major gifts programs, and build long-term organizational sustainability. She also held leadership roles at the University of Arizona’s College of Architecture, Planning and Landscape Architecture, where she focused on development, partnerships, and alumni engagement.
A longtime New Mexican, Angie returned to Santa Fe to lead Kitchen Angels and to be closer to her aging parents. Her husband, Mike, is enjoying retirement filled with Santa Fe skiing and mountain biking. Their two daughters are pursuing their own paths—Quincey at American University Washington College of Law and the Elliott graduating from Arizona State University this May. AND two naughty dogs, Winston and Petunia. Angie is deeply committed to the nonprofit sector, human services, advocating for community-based care and ensuring that everyone has access to the support they need.
