Teatro Paraguas
Meaningful and rewarding theatre
Teatro Paraguas, now enjoying its 20th season, has two intimate Mid-town black box theaters which are nearly always lit up with our own Latinx productions and community celebrations, as well as music and dance concerts, poetry readings, workshops, and guest productions throughout the year.
Teatro Paraguas is Santa Fe's community theatre. We host Compania Chuscales y Mina Fajardo (flamenco), Ballet Folclórico Xochitl, and Umbrella Children's Theatre. We co-produce the annual El Día de los Muertos on Santa Fe Plaza with the Kiwanis Club and the City of Santa Fe. We perform at the Southside Feria Mercados, at the Santa Fe Public Libraries, and at the International Folk Art Museum. We produce plays by New Mexico playwrights.
Since 2004, Teatro Paraguas has staged over 85 plays, including world premieres such as In The Time of the Butterflies, by Caridad Svich, and Atacama, by Augusto Federico Amador. Plays by New Mexico playwrights include We Are Hispanic-American Women…OK?, by Patricia Crespin of Las Vegas, and Parted Waters, by Robert F. Benjamin of Los Alamos.
Our Board of Directors is majority Latinx, and majority women. We work with troubled youth, actors with disabilities, and people who are onstage for the first time. Everyone is welcome to join us under the collective umbrella to create meaningful and rewarding theatre!

_____
The Santa Fe Community Foundation invited its community partners to submit stories related to its July topic of Arts & Culture.
McCurdy Ministries
Local nonprofit McCurdy Ministries shares their story, including the early childhood programs that support young children and families in the Española Valley, offering care, education, and essential resources during critical early years.
Pegasus Legal Services for Children
Hear from Pegasus — a recent Santa Fe Baby Fund grant recipient and New Mexico’s only nonprofit law firm dedicated exclusively to children’s civil legal needs — about the importance of kinship guardianship in keeping local children safe and families together.
Santa Fe Indigenous Center
The Santa Fe Indigenous Center is a Native-led nonprofit serving Indigenous families across Santa Fe County. Through biweekly food drives, cultural events, community programs, emergency financial assistance, and a robust network of referral resources, SFIC supports the diverse needs of the local Indigenous community. Each year, the organization hosts its signature event — the Honoring Native Nations Powwow on Indigenous Peoples’ Day — bringing dancers, drummers, Tribal Dignitaries, artists, and community members together to celebrate Indigenous culture, joy, and resilience. This year’s powwow was a vibrant success, and SFIC looks forward to continuing this tradition in 2026.
