Details
About the event
Confused by financial statements? You're not alone. Featuring guest speaker Alberto Granados, Director of Finance at The Nature Conservancy in New Mexico, this practical workshop demystifies nonprofit financial documents and strengthens your ability to provide meaningful financial oversight as a board member.
Additional Information
This event is part of the Learning Hub program On the Ground. The Santa Fe Community Foundation proudly offers the Learning Hub as an educational space for nonprofit board, executive directors, staff members, and donors. Each year, the Hub offers dozens of events, workshops, and learning circles that promote leadership, skill building, and peer-supported growth.
In this two-hour session, you'll learn how to read and interpret essential nonprofit financial documents with confidence. We'll cover:
- The key components of nonprofit financial statements
- Critical differences between for-profit and nonprofit financials
- Red flags every board member should watch for
- Basic financial ratios for evaluating organizational health
Using real-world examples and plain language, you'll practice reviewing financial statements and asking informed questions. Perfect for both financial experts and those who break into a sweat at the mention of spreadsheets.
Ideal for:
- Current and incoming board members
- Board treasurers
- Finance/Audit committee members
- Executive Directors working with boards
Bring your organization's most recent financial statements if you'd like to apply concepts during the session. This workshop focuses on oversight responsibilities rather than accounting procedures.
