An early board member recalls asking a question not long after the Santa Fe Community Foundation was founded in 1981: “How in the world are we going to last for another month or six months?”
It was a fair question. By the end of 1982, the foundation had just over $5,400 in assets. Volunteers sometimes found themselves moving office supplies by wheelbarrow from one donated space to the next.
Today, we know the answer.
