An early board member recalls asking a question not long after the Santa Fe Community Foundation was founded in 1981: “How in the world are we going to last for another month or six months?”
It was a fair question. By the end of 1982, the foundation had just over $5,400 in assets. Volunteers sometimes found themselves moving office supplies by wheelbarrow from one donated space to the next.
Today, we know the answer.

Presented annually since 1987, the Piñon Awards are among northern New Mexico's most prestigious recognitions of nonprofit excellence.
