Help shape New Mexico's education action plan

NMPED, LANL Foundation, LESC, and WestEd are inviting the public to participate in 12 regional community meetings across the state in August to help shape the Martinez/Yazzie Action Plan.
The Martinez/Yazzie Action Plan is New Mexico’s formal response to the landmark court ruling that found the state failed to meet its constitutional obligation to provide a uniform and sufficient education for all students. The action plan is being developed by the New Mexico Public Education Department in partnership with the LANL Foundation, WestEd, and the Legislative Education Study Committee. It focuses on five court-mandated areas: access to high-quality instruction, culturally and linguistically responsive educators, academic and behavioral supports, equitable funding, and data-driven accountability. The planning process includes statewide community engagement to ensure the plan reflects the voices and needs of students, families, educators, and tribal communities across New Mexico.
The regional meetings are being hosted in collaboration with PED’s strategic partners: the Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL) Foundation, the Legislative Education Study Committee (LESC), and WestEd. Together, PED, LANL Foundation, and WestEd invite families, educators, students, tribal leaders and community members to attend. These meetings are intended to gather meaningful community input to ensure the statewide plan reflects the voices and lived experiences of those most impacted by the Martinez/Yazzie ruling.
The plan will address five core areas required by the court:
Equitable access to high-quality instruction
Access to well-prepared, culturally and linguistically responsive educators
Academic, social, and behavioral support services
Fair and effective funding to meet student needs
Data and accountability systems to drive continuous improvement

August 7 – Santa Fe, Mescalero, Clovis
