Santa Fe Community Foundation announces inaugural multi-year grants from Fishbein Multi-Year Fund
The Santa Fe Community Foundation is proud to announce the first recipients of multi-year grants from the Fishbein Multi-Year Fund, a new initiative providing sustained support to northern New Mexico nonprofits working in the areas of environment, animal welfare, and arts and culture. A total of $390,000 will be distributed over three years (2025–2028) to five local organizations: Española Humane, Forest Stewards Guild, Nat Gold Players, Santa Fe Raptor Center, and Silver Bullet Productions.
The Fishbein Multi-Year Fund was made possible through a transformational $8.5 million bequest received in 2023 from the late Deborah and Martin Fishbein— the largest gift in the Foundation’s 43-year history. The fund reflects the couple’s enduring love of the Santa Fe region and their deep passion for nature, animals, and the arts.
“We’re incredibly proud to carry Deborah and Martin’s spirit forward through this initiative,” said Christopher Goett, President & CEO of the Santa Fe Community Foundation. “This is a powerful way to honor the couple’s legacy and invest in the long-term strength of nonprofits that promote the resilience of our region and all that makes it so vibrant.”
Organizations were invited to apply based on a well-considered set of criteria, including organizational size, years and track record of services, history of philanthropic engagement with the Santa Fe Community Foundation, and reported plans for use of possible multi-year funding. To support sustainability and strategic growth, the Foundation has earmarked first-year grants for planning efforts, followed by two years of implementation funding.
“Support from the Santa Fe Community Foundation’s Fishbein Multi-Year Fund enables us to integrate and strengthen key programs in the Southwest,” said Esmé Cadiente, Deputy Director of the Forest Stewards Guild. “This flexible funding is especially critical at a time of growing uncertainty in the federal funding landscape. It allows us to align our efforts, expand community engagement, and enhance regional resilience.”
The Fishbein Multi-Year Fund represents the Santa Fe Community Foundation’s deepening commitment to philanthropic practices grounded in relationships, shaped by community priorities, and designed to support the long-term vitality of northern New Mexico.
