Gratitude in Community: Reflections from Three Learning Hub Leadership Cohorts
Honoring a Year of Growth
In this season of gratitude, the Learning Hub is reflecting with deep appreciation on the participants and facilitators who journeyed through a powerful year of programs grounded in connection, courage, and community. While the Hub hosted many workshops and trainings this year, three leadership cohorts — Nonprofit Board Fundamentals, Wisdom Weavers, and Racial Healing & Renewal — recently completed their 2025 sessions, leaving us with a rich tapestry of stories from leaders across northern New Mexico.
A Community of Diverse Leaders
What made this work so meaningful was not only the content of the sessions, but the incredible people who showed up. Participants represented large and small organizations, Pueblo and Tribal communities, arts organizations, youth-serving programs, health centers, rural initiatives, and statewide networks. Each arrived with their own history, hopes, and responsibilities — and each found something uniquely valuable in being part of a learning community.
A few themes rose again and again across these programs: the longing for community, the need for practical tools, the importance of culturally grounded leadership, and the deep desire for spaces where healing and professional development can sit side by side.
Wisdom Weavers: Leadership Rooted in Identity
In the Wisdom Weavers program, women of color leaders emphasized how transformative it was to be in a space where identity and leadership were not treated as separate conversations. Participants shared how grounding it felt to be with others who understood their lived experiences and the unique pressures they navigate in their roles. As one participant reflected:
“I didn’t realize how much I needed a space like this until I was in it.”
Again and again, leaders spoke about reconnecting with their own voice, trusting their inner wisdom, and finding renewed energy through authentic community.
Nonprofit Board Fundamentals: Building Confidence in Governance
The Nonprofit Board Fundamentals program created an environment where board members could learn together, ask honest questions, and build confidence in governance practices. Many expressed relief at finally having clarity about board roles, financial oversight, and organizational documentation.
What stood out most was how often people described feeling less intimidated and more empowered. One participant shared:
“This training finally made governance feel doable for our small organization.”
Participants walked away not only with new tools, but with a greater sense of possibility for their boards and the communities they serve.
Racial Healing & Renewal: Leading with Truth, History, and Heart
The Racial Healing & Renewal cohort revealed another dimension of leadership in northern New Mexico shaped by lived experiences of racism, identity, cultural continuity, grief, and resilience. The program offers a safe and confidential space where participants can speak freely about race, colonization, and healing without needing to defend or soften their truths.
Recognizing that leaders carry both personal and community histories into their work is essential. As one participant expressed:
“I live for my ancestors who never had the opportunities I have now.”
Others emphasized the importance of being in a cohort where they could grow, heal, and connect with peers who understand the emotional labor their leadership requires.

Executive Director Learning Circle Wraps for 2025
The Learning Hub wrapped up a strong year for the Executive Director Learning Circle — our free, drop-in peer space for nonprofit executive directors in northern New Mexico. We explored practical leadership topics including board development, fundraising alignment, emotional intelligence, and equity-focused practices. Deep thanks to facilitators Marsie Silvestro and Ross Chaney, and to our guest speakers for their insights.
