Event details
Every organization experiences moments when things feel harder than they should — decisions take too long, communication becomes unclear, or priorities feel misaligned. Often, these challenges are less about individuals and more about how organizations are structured to work together.
In this interactive session, participants will explore how leadership dynamics influence strategy, organizational culture, and daily operations. Through guided exercises and reflection, participants will examine where friction shows up in their organizations and consider how leadership approaches can better support clarity, collaboration, and shared success.
Participants will:
- Explore how organizational structures shape teamwork and decision-making
- Reflect on the balance between individual effort and collective success
- Identify whether their organization operates as a dependent, independent, or interdependent system
- Consider how cultural humility and socially responsible leadership show up in daily work
- Translate leadership values into practical, day-to-day actions
This session is designed for nonprofit leaders, staff, and board members seeking practical insights and tools to strengthen collaboration, improve organizational effectiveness, and align daily work with mission and values.
Participants will leave with simple tools and reflections they can use to support stronger teamwork and clearer organizational direction.

Omar Torres
Omar Torres
Omar Torres (he/him) brings 17 years of experience to the realm of organizational leadership and development. Starting his journey in organizing spaces, Omar learned early that effective leadership is about listening, adapting, and sharing power. Today, he facilitates workshops incorporating Paulo Freire’s methods, guiding groups to bring out the knowledge that is already present in the room and move from problem-solving toward critical thinking and systemic change. Every workshop is guided by the principles of cultural humility, ensuring that the learning process acknowledges how our praxis affects the whole, and committing to a process of continuous growth alongside the communities we serve.
